"Ask natives what qualifies as classic Georgian dress and they’ll probably tell you long silhouettes and the color black. Some people will say it’s because the country is perpetually in mourning due to wars and conflicts; others might shrug and chalk it up to comfort. As an outsider, the look can seem quite repetitive, but there’s no denying that Aleksander Akhalkatsishvili does a good job with it. His new collection featured robe coats, a popular shape in Georgia, and a long pleated turtleneck dress. Some of the nonblack pieces, like an oversize green pantsuit and a white dress that evoked Céline, were also nice. They’re nothing we haven’t seen before, but they’ll appeal to Georgians and they’ll sell in Tbilisi."
